This man convinced all the women that a bikini is not underwear. The bikini, created by Louis Réard, takes its name from the Bikini Atoll, as it was considered an “explosive” swimwear.

Logically a bikini is not underwear because you wear underwear under clothes, whereas a bikini is just the whole fit

    3. Yuck, its giving Les Wexner. Epsteins pedobuddy, the founder of Victorias Secret that’s “an old man who lives in Ohio making money off girls like me, cashing in on body issues, selling skin and bones with big boobs.”

Ladies, we gotta team up and stop letting creepy old men tell us what to wear.

      **Yep, confirmed creep:**

Reard named his fashion invention after the atomic bombs that were tested on Bikini Atoll, launching the product just days after one of the deadly bomb tests forced evacuations of the island and killed Japanese fishermen.

Professional fashion models refused to wear them, so the 50-year-old hired a 19-year-old nude dancer from a casino in Paris to model it at a public swimming pool. The nude dancer then received 50,000 fan letters from primarily men, which are retroactively mischaracterized as fan mail about his wonderful invention.

[Réard claimed in advertisements that a two-piece suit wasn’t a genuine bikini “unless it could be pulled through a wedding ring.”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_R%C3%A9ard)

He and his rival competed in advertisements to 1up each other with ‘the smallest female bathing suit ever,’ while simultaneously pushing the narrative to guilt trip women that – because of the war – they needed to wear garments that used less fabric.

He’s also a nepo baby that inherited his mother’s lingerie company, and this is what he did with it.

The younger me, carried a string bikini I the chance part of my wallet, because, you never knew when you would pass a beach in your travels!

    5. Huh, I always thought Bikini Atoll got the name from the swimwear, not the other way around.

    6. It’s interesting how we’re embarrassed if our underwear may show etc, but then at the beach, we walk around half naked without a care

    7. I always thought it was named for the suffix BI at the beginning meaning 2 cause it’s a 2 piece.

And I thought the island was named after the swimwear.

      Shows what I know lol.
